Stations and Passenger Facilities Investments

Stations and passenger facilities investments are organized into three subcategories:

  • Platforms and structures, including Metrorail station platform rehabilitation and improvements to station safety and customer experience
  • Vertical transportation, including rehabilitation, replacement, and scheduled maintenance of Metro's escalators and elevators as needed
  • Station systems, including lighting, station cooling systems, drainage pumping stations and fire/life safety infrastructure
Here are a few featured projects:

Fare Collection

This project replaces Metro's aging fare collection systems in rail stations, on Metrobuses, and upgrades the back-end system that supports fare collection. Metro will continue development and improvement of the mobile payment system, replacement of the fare machines, and assist in developing WMATA.com.
