Aluminum, LED lights
Diameters 20"; 30"; 42"
Farragut Spheres consists of 20 backlit and perforated wall-mounted aluminum spheres, each lit by a custom-made LED light array. The visual effect of the filtered light through the spheres enhances the station's entrance.
The artwork is inspired by aerial views of tree-groupings found in the adjacent Farragut Park and the artist's artistic muse - perforated spheres.
Michael Enn Sirvet attended the University of Maryland, graduating with a degree in Structural Engineering and an overflowing fascination with science, the arts, nature, and the patterns that bind them together. He produces sculptural artworks using metals, hardwoods, and plastics.
This project was made possible by The Golden Triangle BID and a grant to The Golden Triangle BID from the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities and was donated to WMATA.
