Crystal City Escalator Replacement

Advisory Effective: 8/5/24 - 9/8/25

In August 2024, Metro began a major capital project replacing six escalators at Crystal City. The project will replace three entrance escalators and three intermediate escalators with brand-new ones that are more durable and reliable. The escalators are being installed as part of an ongoing effort to replace over 139 escalators across the Metrorail system by 2028.

How will this work affect my trip?

The escalators will be replaced in pairs, one entrance-level escalator and one intermediate-level escalator at a time. While these escalators are under construction, the remaining two escalators at each level will be operational with one escalator going up and the other one going down.
The station entrances and elevators will remain open throughout construction.

How long will the project take?

All six escalators will be replaced by early September 2025.
